Dr Suryabrata Banerjee is a Consultant Microbiologist and Clinical Lead with over 20 years of experience in NHS healthcare, spanning both the public and private sectors in India and the United Kingdom. He currently serves as Clinical Lead for Microbiology at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and chairs the SRG Microbiology network for the North East and North Cumbria (NENC) region.
A passionate advocate for clinical excellence, Dr Banerjee brings a uniquely interdisciplinary approach to healthcare — drawing on insights from multiple subject areas to solve complex clinical and operational challenges. He has led multiple quality improvement projects within the NHS, including the successful implementation of LIMS as Clinical Safety Officer (CSO), improvements to the pre-analytical stage of blood culture, and the expansion of molecular diagnostic services.
Deeply committed to medical education, Dr Banerjee founded Microregistrar.com in 2012 and a Moodle-based mentorship programme in 2022 to address the gap in quality support for trainees preparing for the FRCPath (Microbiology) examination. These resources have supported over 400 microbiologists across the world. He also serves as a clinical and educational supervisor, FRCPath mentor, and supports the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) in the exam process.
Microquora was co-founded by Dr Banerjee as a platform to connect, educate, and empower the global microbiology community — bridging the gap between clinical practice, education, and innovation.
